Dov Charney’s Los Angeles Apparel has opened its first store in New York, partnering with KPG Fund. The new location is situated at 480 Broadway, between Bloom Street and Grand Street.
This expansive 24,687 square-foot space was previously occupied by Topshop, placing it right in the midst of SoHo’s growing retail landscape.
All products from Los Angeles Apparel are “ethically driven” and produced at a factory in Southwest Los Angeles.
Greg Kraut, co-founder and CEO of KPG, stated, “This lease reflects everything we believe in. It supports mission-driven brands that contribute to the cultural and economic structure of the city.” He also mentioned it’s a vote of confidence for the local retail market.
The revamped 480 Broadway now includes roughly 100,000 square feet of boutique offices and retail space.
Charney is also known for founding American Apparel, although he no longer associates with the brand.
The owners of 1251 Sixth Ave., located at West 49th Street, and their managing agent, Hines, are still seeking to fill a substantial retail space left vacant after a 15,000-square-foot Chase Branch closed last year. However, the upcoming opening of Jumbo’s Japanese restaurant, Double Knot, on the building’s ground floor is anticipated to be a strong draw.
Double Knot, which was established in Philadelphia by chef Michael Schulson, recently showcased an impressive menu in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood, featuring both classic and inventive dishes.
This debut in New York is poised to enhance Midtown’s Sixth Avenue, transforming it into a culinary hotspot filled with a variety of dining options, including STK Steak, Del Frisco, Abra, Jam, Oceana, Restaurant 53, and soon to arrive eateries like Eatary Cafe and Carnegie Deli.
