Wrestling Icon and Former WWE Star Sabu Dies at 60

Terry Blank, a former WWE star known as “sub,” has died at the age of 60. The cause of death hasn’t been disclosed yet.

The news was first reported by Pwinsider, and WWE expressed their condolences on X, mourning the loss of the former star.

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) also released a statement reflecting on the impact of sub, saying, “The wrestling community is grieving the loss of subs.” They highlighted his contributions to wrestling, mentioning his memorable moments in high-risk matches.

Sub recently had his retirement match against Joey Janela just last month. He was famously known as “The Maniac of Suicide, Murder, Massacre, and Death,” particularly noted for his involvement in hardcore matches that showcased extreme elements like tables and barbed wire.

A two-time ECW world heavyweight champion, he also held the world television championship and won tag team gold three times. In 2006, he joined WWE, which subsequently launched a new weekly show.

Sub was part of the ECW original team that bested a new breed in an eight-man tag team match at WrestleMania 23 on April 1, 2007. However, he was released by WWE about a month later.

Before making his mark in WWE, he had stints with WCW, New Japan Pro Wrestling, and AAA, as well as appearances in several indie promotions. He notably returned to AEW in 2023 as a special enforcer in a match between Adam Cole and Chris Jericho.
