Following CNN anchor Jake Tapper’s acknowledgment that the White House misled the public regarding President Joe Biden’s physical and cognitive health, a wave of criticism has emerged from Republican leaders and conservative commentators.
During a segment on Tuesday, Jake Tapper discussed findings from his forthcoming book, revealing that even advisors and Cabinet members were misinformed about the severity of President Biden’s decline.
The reaction was swift and passionate. Lawmakers and commentators accused the Biden administration and its media allies of orchestrating a long-running deception to shield a failing presidency, compromising transparency and accountability.
“You didn’t need a medical degree to know.”
James Comer, the House Oversight Committee Chairman from Kentucky, expressed his frank perspective, labeling the situation as a “hiding history books.”
“We didn’t need a medical background to realize Joe Biden’s health was declining,” he stated. “The Democrats were trying to bury the truth. The media handed them the tools.”
The committee’s official account mentioned archived footage and transcripts where Biden appeared “sharp,” asserting that the “Democrats and legacy media lied… and now they act as if no cover-up took place.”
“If you know that Biden administrators spent four years lying to our faces, raise your hand,” wrote Senator Tommy Tuberville from Alabama.
“It was way worse than everyone thought.”
Senator Ted Cruz from Texas voiced feelings of betrayal, stating, “It’s far worse than many imagined, and we thought it was already bad.”
Many highlighted that those responsible for public awareness either overlooked facts or were directly involved in misleading the public.
“Don’t forget how the media treated anyone who raised concerns about Biden’s mental and physical state,” Senator Mike Lee from Utah wrote, reflecting on the skepticism faced by critics.
“The media ignored it. Dr. Kevin O’Connor reported on it. Biden’s staff misrepresented it,” noted former Trump adviser Jason Miller, mentioning discussions within Biden’s team about delaying the use of a wheelchair until the 2024 election.
“Is it time for council monitoring?”
Tapper reported that even members of Biden’s own Cabinet were kept in the dark, which prompted Florida’s CFO Jimmy Patronis to question whether the 25th Amendment should be invoked due to a sitting president unable to function effectively.
“Should Congress investigate the concealment of Biden’s cognition?” he queried, raising concerns about the Cabinet’s responsibilities amidst such secrecy.
Others pointed to international repercussions, with political analyst Scott Jennings suggesting that China perceives Biden as weak and is ignoring him in trade negotiations, contrasting his approach with that of former President Trump.
Domestically, Biden’s cognitive decline reportedly became conspicuous when he failed to recognize actor George Clooney during a 2023 fundraiser, with an attendee likening the incident to seeing “people who aren’t alive.”
Former DNC fundraiser Evan Barker compared the situation to past internal conflicts within the DNC, indicating larger internal struggles.
Batya Ungar-Sargon, an author and columnist, critiqued Biden’s supporters for their opportunism, saying, “The same people who lied about him eventually turn on him when it’s politically convenient.”
“The Biden era has been lying and betrayal continues.”
“For years, we were told Biden was operating at peak performance. Now it’s clear the White House doctor indicated he could have needed a wheelchair after another fall,” a critique claims.
Political strategist Chris Lacivita ironically noted, “If you need a report to see Biden is declining, I have a bridge to sell you.”
Representative Mike Collins from Georgia remarked, “What an incredible admission from the Biden administration about how they deceived the American public. Those responsible remain influential in D.C. and are a barrier to truth.”
Some view the recent shift in corporate media’s stance as a strategy to regain credibility, with Sean Davis from the Federalist asserting this isn’t just about Biden anymore; it’s about salvaging the media’s own reputation.
Radio host Jesse Kelly warned against accepting any deflections from the media, framing their claims of feeling “deceived” as insincere.
“The Worst Cover-up in American Political History”
Mark Levin, a well-known conservative commentator, reiterated these accusations, condemning journalists who have covered Biden’s decline while having contributed to what he termed “the worst cover-ups in American political history.”
As House Republicans show interest in oversight hearings, the discussions around Biden’s administration, doctors, and press roles are expected to continue.
