Draymond Green, a forward for the Golden State Warriors, has criticized the media for promoting a narrative that unfairly represents him, claiming it stems from his race.
Last night, the Minnesota Timberwolves eliminated the Warriors from the NBA playoffs, but attention was already drawn to comments made by Green and other star players in a recent press conference.
“It’s absurd to keep pushing this agenda that makes me seem like an angry black man,” he stated.
Following a 117-93 loss on May 8, Green was in the locker room when he addressed the media’s portrayal, emphasizing, “I am not an angry black man. I’m a successful, educated black man, and I excel at basketball.”
He further expressed frustration at how his words are twisted, arguing that the media frequently reinforces stereotypes through sensationalized reports.
“I do my job well, and I’m exhausted by this narrative,” he said. “It tries to paint me, and others like me, in a negative light—it’s ridiculous.”
Fans reacted to his comments amid videos showcasing his intense gameplay, including moments viewed as aggressive fouls.
Analysts weighed in, with Gary Sheffield Jr. commenting, “When someone insists they’re not what their actions suggest, it raises eyebrows.”
After the Warriors’ close 102-97 loss on May 10, Green attracted attention again for remarks he made late in the game after committing a foul.
In a separate discussion, podcaster Pat McAfee highlighted Green’s comments regarding betting odds, suggesting some fans suspected he was trying to manipulate the game, a claim the NBA did not support. In fact, they fined Green $50,000 for questioning the integrity of the game.
Overall, Sheffield noted that Green’s behavior has become part of his on-court persona, pointing out that whenever the Warriors face challenges, they often resort to fouling and complaining.
