Jordon Hudson receives backing after addressing the struggles of Maine fishermen

The Main Coast Fishermen Association recently recognized Jordon Hudson for her advocacy at the Miss Maine America pageant held earlier this month. Hudson’s passion for supporting Maine fishermen clearly resonates with her. She not only defended their interests but also expressed gratitude to Senator Susan Collins and the Trump administration for their work on the Maine Sea grant.

In an Instagram post, the Main Coast Fishermen Association noted, “Advocating for commercial fishermen in Maine takes many forms, sometimes walking the stage in heels wearing a bikini. From the stage to the working waterfront, Jordon Hudson helps to shine a spotlight on Maine fishing communities in ways we never imagined.” They added that Hudson’s efforts highlight the different, yet equally valid, forms of advocacy that exist.

During her time at the Miss Maine pageant, Hudson reflected on moments she cherishes, mentioning her family’s fishing boat as a particularly significant memory.

Hudson said, “I think about this a lot because there are massive departures for fishermen that are occurring in rural Maine. I don’t want to see fishermen leave this place.” She expressed a commitment to representing the community as Miss Maine America and intends to engage with the government to advocate for their needs, ensuring they don’t become relics of the past.

Her connection to the fishing industry runs deep, as her family owned a fishing business called Fisheries of the French Bay. Unfortunately, their fishing grounds in Taunton Bay were closed in 2000, leading to the eventual bankruptcy of their business a few years later. The family worked to lobby for changes in regulations that were problematic for fishing practices, but the damage had already been done.

Ultimately, they relocated to Massachusetts, marking a significant transition in their lives. Hudson’s story serves as a reminder of the many challenges faced by fishing communities, shedding light on an industry that holds both personal and economic significance for many.
