Antonio Villaraigosa, a candidate in the California Democratic gubernatorial race, has criticized former Vice President Kamala Harris and ex-health secretary Xavier Becerra for allegedly “concealing” President Biden’s cognitive decline while he was in office.
In a detailed statement issued on Tuesday, Villaraigosa referenced insights from journalists Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson’s new book, “Original Sin: Biden’s Decline, Concealment, and the Disastrous Choice to Run Again.”
“At the top levels of our government, those in charge either actively planned or misled the public in a systematic effort to hide Joe Biden’s mental decline,” remarked Villaraigosa, who previously served as the mayor of Los Angeles.
Becerra launched his gubernatorial campaign last month, and reports suggest Harris is considering running for the role as well. Villaraigosa emphasized, “Voters have a right to know the truth.”
“Did Kamala Harris and Xavier Becerra know about this? If so, when did they find out, and why did they choose not to speak up?” the former mayor questioned. “This cover-up has directly contributed to a second Donald Trump presidency, affecting all Californians.”
The book, which was released on Tuesday, gained attention earlier this month when excerpts surfaced detailing alleged efforts to shield the public from noticeable signs of Biden’s cognitive issues during his last year in office.
This release follows announcements about Biden’s diagnosis of an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has reportedly spread to his bones.
