Most parents want colleges to stop giving priority to race and allowing transgender athletes in girls’ sports, according to a survey.

Parents are expressing concern about universities placing too much emphasis on race in scholarship allocations and hiring practices. Additionally, there’s a strong sentiment that transgender athletes should not be allowed to compete in women’s sports.

A recent survey conducted by a conservative nonprofit revealed that 54% of American parents with children aged 15 to 21 oppose racial preferences in scholarship decisions, while 57% disapprove of similar preferences in hiring.

Regarding transgender participation, 60% of respondents believe that transgender individuals shouldn’t participate in women’s sports, and 61% favor keeping women’s restrooms designated for biological women.

“It’s understandable that parents and students expect universities to prepare graduates for careers that are intellectually rigorous and welcoming to a variety of viewpoints,” noted one observer.

When universities discuss campus culture, they should heed parental concerns. There’s a desire for an environment free from political extremism, ideological bias, anti-Semitism, and disturbances.

On the topic of institutions exclusively serving students of a specific race, 57% of parents voiced opposition.

Overall, parents seem increasingly worried about politically sensitive issues and practices at higher education institutions across the nation, according to the study.

In recent years, there have been numerous anti-Israel protests on campuses, which have sparked debate about how administrations should address these actions.

A significant 67% of parents believe universities should implement anti-Semitism bias training for faculty and staff.

Moreover, 69% of parents support educational institutions that encourage students to disrupt disruptive campus activities.

Support for transparency in higher education is high, with 82% wanting colleges to disclose foreign funding sources. Additionally, 79% believe that universities should give preference to American applicants over international ones during the admissions process.

Most surveyed parents either plan to enroll their children in college or have already made arrangements; only 11% said their children would not attend college, while 7% were unsure.

The survey conducted between May 9 and May 15 included over 1,000 parents of children aged 15 to 21, with a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points. Among those polled, 43% identified as Republicans, 21% as independents, and 34% as Democrats.
