Significant Legislation to Protect the Border and Reduce Illegal Immigration

New Legislation for Border Security Proposed by Rep. Hinson

Rep. Ashley Hinson, a Republican from Iowa, shared insights with Breitbart News on Thursday regarding a significant bill passed in the House aimed at enhancing border security and combating illegal immigration.

“This comprehensive bill, inspired by President Trump’s agenda, will reinforce our borders indefinitely and facilitate substantial deportations. It targets the immigration issues exacerbated under Biden’s administration and aims to equip border patrol and ICE agents with the necessary resources to perform their duties effectively,” she explained.

The House Judiciary Committee has termed the legislation as “big beautiful border security,” drawing considerable attention. The bill proposes funding for the annual removal of about 100,000 individuals, an increase of 10,000 personnel for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and detention facilities capable of accommodating at least 100,000 detainees.

The proposed provisions include:

  • Funding for ICE, Customs and Border Protection (CBP), U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), and the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) to enhance detention, deportation, and enforcement staff.
  • Hiring 10,000 additional ICE officers and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Criminal Investigators.
  • Funding aimed at deporting at least 1 million individuals via ground and air transport.
  • Increasing the number of available detention beds.
  • Supporting the enforcement of the “Stay in Mexico” policy.
  • Allocating resources to screen unaccompanied minors for gang connections.
  • Funding to hire additional government attorneys to expedite removal processes.
  • Establishing permanent fees for immigration services, intending to recover costs and decrease federal deficits.

The legislation outlines a series of fees, particularly aimed at discouraging unauthorized asylum applications and reducing illegal immigration. Some notable fees include:

  • $1,000 Asylum Application Fee – a first in U.S. history.
  • $1,000 for individuals paroled into the U.S.
  • $3,500 fee for sponsors of unaccompanied children.
  • $5,000 for sponsors of unaccompanied children who fail to appear in court.
  • $550 for work permit applications.
  • Temporary Protected Status (TPS) application fee of $500.
  • $400 for submitting a Diversity Immigration Visa Application.
  • $250 to enter the Diversity Visa Lottery.
  • $250 visa integrity fee.
  • $100 fees during pending asylum applications.
  • $5,000 for individuals ordered removed in absentia.
  • $1,500 fee for adjusting status to permanent residency.
  • Multiple fees ranging from $900 to $1,325 for appeals and motions related to immigration decisions.
  • $30 for Form I-94 (arrival/departure record), increased from $6.

“We’re also raising immigration costs. It seems the Democrats intended to lure undocumented individuals with taxpayer-funded benefits, but now are looking to prevent illegal immigration and secure the borders, aligning with President Trump’s initiatives,” Hinson remarked.
