Musk Critiques Trump’s Budget Proposal
Less than a week after stepping down as the White House’s efficiency director, Elon Musk is urging Americans to “kill” the budget bill backed by President Donald Trump, which he describes as “big and beautiful.” His growing discontent with the bill is evident.
On Wednesday afternoon, Musk shared images from the 2003 film, Kill Bill, as he opposed the proposal. He stated on X, “We need a new bill that doesn’t expand the deficit.” In a separate post, he called for Americans to reach out to senators, expressing concern over the nation’s potential for bankruptcy and imploring them to “kill the bill.”
Trump’s budget proposal is encountering pushback from several Republican senators, worried it could exacerbate national debt issues.
Musk’s frustration peaked Tuesday, where he remarked, “I can’t stand it anymore.” He denounced the bill as a “massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill” and criticized those who support it, suggesting they recognize the errors of their votes.
In a previous CBS interview, Musk voiced disappointment in the bill, claiming it could hinder the progress his Doge team had made.
The House passed this bill in late May, mostly along party lines, though two Republicans opposed it due to concerns over spending cuts and debt. GOP Senator Rand Paul from Kentucky highlighted the increased debt as a critical issue for him, signalling that he may not support the bill in its current state.
Trump has responded to Paul and others who oppose the bill, yet he seems to be approaching Musk’s criticisms with a bit more restraint.
When questioned about Musk’s remarks, White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt stated, “The president already knows where he stands on this bill. It’s a big, beautiful bill, and he’s stuck with it.”
