Orbic North America Plans to Bring Jobs Back to Suffolk County
A tech company based in Long Island has committed to shifting jobs back from overseas, specifically China and India, and plans to establish four new factories in Suffolk County.
Orbic North America unveiled its initiative, dubbed “Project Patriot,” on Wednesday. They aim to have a factory operational in Hauppauge and Bay Shore by early next year, which is expected to create around 1,000 manufacturing jobs in the U.S.
Mike Narula, CEO of Orbic, expressed his decision to relocate manufacturing to New York despite anticipating some profit reduction. He mentioned that he has questioned this move but feels there’s no point in debating it further.
Narula noted that, in terms of production capacity, the company can now manufacture thousands more units compared to what was made overseas. He believes that as they increase their production volumes and sales, any initial loss in profits will be offset.
James Gowen, Verizon’s senior vice president of supply chain, is collaborating with Orbic North America to support this technological shift, affirming Verizon’s backing for the project.
Narula clarified that the decision to move production isn’t directly influenced by former President Trump’s tariff policies, emphasizing this has been in the works long before the upcoming election.
He also pointed out the need for improved supply chain management and the importance of supporting local manufacturing industries.
Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine attended the announcement and expressed gratitude toward companies that are paving the way for the future of Long Island. He believes Orbic will play a significant role in shaping a new era for the local business community and looks forward to the job creation this initiative will bring.
