Texas Governor Deploys National Guard Ahead of Protests
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has decided to deploy National Guard troops statewide in anticipation of protests against immigrant raids and in an effort to prevent recent violence seen in Los Angeles.
On Wednesday, Abbott announced that troops would be sent out “to ensure peace and order” in the coming days. By Monday night, they had already been dispatched to San Antonio to brace for protests planned for Wednesday and Saturday, according to the San Antonio Express News.
The Texas State Guard will be positioned across the state to maintain peace and order. Peaceful protests are permitted. However, acts that cause injury to people or property are illegal and will result in arrests. We will utilize all available resources and strategies to assist law enforcement in maintaining order.

Abbott’s spokesperson emphasized that Texas is prepared to mobilize the necessary personnel and resources to uphold the law throughout the state. National Guard soldiers are on standby where large demonstrations are anticipated, just in case their assistance is needed.
This move follows a weekend of tensions sparked by anger over local immigrant enforcement actions, reportedly leading to several arrests. Protests against ICE and the Trump administration have spread across the nation, resulting in confrontations between protesters and police in various cities, particularly those led by Democrats. In Texas, large gatherings have already occurred in Dallas, Austin, Houston, and San Antonio since Friday.
Abbott’s spokesman remarked that while peaceful protests are a fundamental aspect of American life, Texas will not tolerate the kind of lawlessness witnessed in Los Angeles. Individuals who engage in violent behavior or property damage will face swift legal consequences.
