Mets Edge Nationals Amid Injury Concerns
The New York Mets secured a 4-3 victory over the Washington Nationals on Thursday, marking their sixth consecutive win. However, the triumph was slightly overshadowed by a troubling injury to one of their standout players.
Kodai Senga, the starting pitcher, managed to allow just one run over six innings but exited the game due to an apparent leg injury. The injury occurred when he attempted to cover a base after a ground ball hit by Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams.
Initially, Mets first baseman Pete Alonso made an attempt to field the grounder, but his throw forced Senga to leap, leading to an awkward landing on the base.
Although runners were ultimately ruled out, Senga was seen kneeling in pain off the field after the play. He visibly struggled and was seen grabbing his hamstring as Mets manager Carlos Mendoza and team trainers rushed to assist him.
Before leaving the game, Senga had only allowed a single hit while the Mets held a comfortable lead of 4-0. Following this win, his record now stands at 7-3, and his impressive 1.47 ERA ranks him second in the major leagues.
