Former Coast Guard Officer Arrested for Threatening President Trump
A former U.S. Coast Guard member, Peter Stinson, has been arrested for allegedly threatening to kill President Donald Trump, as detailed in court documents. Stinson, who is from Virginia, served in the Coast Guard from 1988 until 2021, notably as a sharpshooter and instructor at FEMA.
Documents filed by the FBI task force reveal that Stinson made numerous online threats. For instance, he reportedly claimed Trump should be killed, specifically mentioning the date May 9. This reference is linked to an individual accused of murdering a healthcare CEO the previous year.
Along with those threats, Stinson hinted at various means of violence, including firearms and knives, across multiple social media platforms. He even admitted to having doubts about his capability to carry out an assassination, yet ominously suggested that he might not be entirely honest in that assessment.
Moreover, the affidavit alleges that Stinson had made particular posts—identified with the term “8647”—which authorities believe could relate to an earlier Instagram post by former FBI director James Comey. This post was interpreted by media as a violent threat against Trump, which led to investigations by the Department of Homeland Security and the Secret Service. Following that, Stinson went on to make 13 additional posts referencing “8647.”
Interestingly, Stinson also identified himself as a member of ANTIFA. In a post on February 2, he declared that “this is war” and claimed that “violence is essentially necessary.” His most recent threat, dated June 11, suggested that Trump’s demise would significantly impact party dynamics.
Stinson is set to appear in federal court on Wednesday, facing accusations of threatening the president.
