Steve Bannon, who previously served as President Trump’s chief strategist, suggested that if the Maga movement aligns with Israel in a strike against Iran, it will eventually rally around Trump.
During a Wednesday event with the Christian Science Monitor, Bannon speculated that Trump would clearly outline his rationale, gaining support from his base. “If President Trump feels there are no diplomatic routes left… and that would mean no nuclear weapons,” he stated. “Should he choose this course, especially given his communication skills, people will resonate with him and align with the Maga movement.”
Trump’s stance regarding a potential U.S. strike alongside Israel has sparked noticeable divisions within the Maga group. When asked about the possibility of military action against Iran’s nuclear facilities, Trump responded ambiguously, saying, “I might do that, I might not.”
While some allies of Trump have shown skepticism about another U.S. military engagement in the Middle East, others have voiced strong support. Bannon remains confident that, amid any fallout, Trump’s loyal base won’t waver.
“If the President, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief, proceeds with a strike, there will be some fallout within the Maga movement,” he explained, mentioning figures like Marjorie Taylor Greene and former Rep. Matt Gaetz, who are likely to stand firm and ensure that they get accurate updates. “But if Trump provides solid intelligence that justifies his actions, the Maga movement will back him.”
Trump’s decisions regarding U.S. involvement largely hinge on potential attacks on Iran’s Fordow nuclear facilities. Effective action may necessitate U.S. airpower, as B-2 bombers would be essential for reaching and neutralizing deeply buried targets.
Bannon noted that Trump generally prefers having multiple options available before making decisions. “You never want to corner him into a passive position with no alternatives. That’s a precarious situation,” he advised. “I think if he opts for a strike at Fordow or something more extensive, he’s ready to pivot.”
Bannon expressed the belief that Israel should ultimately handle the situation that escalated over the weekend. “My mantra is that the Israelites must see this through. They initiated it, and they should finish it. They have air superiority,” he remarked.
Recently, Trump conducted a meeting with his national security team in the White House’s situation room. His rhetoric regarding Iran has escalated, calling for its “unconditional surrender” and referring to Iran’s leadership as an “easy target,” though he indicated that there are currently no plans for action against them—“at least for now.”
