Incident Involving Lawmaker and Palestinian Flag

A “crazy, crazy man” waving a Palestinian flag attempted to run Jewish Republican lawmakers off the road on Thursday, according to footage shared on social media by the lawmakers.

Max Miller (R-Ohio) shared his experience, saying, “This morning, as I was driving to work, some indifferent and confused individuals decided to obstruct the road when they couldn’t catch my attention by lying on the corner with the Palestinian flag.” He posted videos on social media including his account.

The lawmaker expressed his concern, stating, “It goes without saying that he died to Israel, but he wanted to kill me and my family. My daughter is thankful that my car and others weren’t in the vicinity.” This sentiment underscores the tension of the moment.

The encounter took place in Rocky River, Ohio, roughly ten miles from Cleveland, as noted by Miller. He mentioned that he reported the incident to both Capitol Police and local officials. “We know who this person is, and he will face justice,” he emphasized, reflecting on the seriousness of the situation.

Adding further weight to the incident, Miller said, “I cannot hide in the face of this blatant anti-Semitic violence.” He also addressed the importance of appropriate communication: “If there are issues with councillors or mayors, the right course is to reach out for a call and set up meetings at our district offices.” This highlights the need for dialogue amidst rising tensions.

Last year, there were a staggering 9,354 incidents of anti-Semitic assault, harassment, and vandalism reported in the U.S., marking a 344% increase over the past five years, according to the Prevention of Defense League. The statistics indicate that, on average, there are more than 25 anti-Semitic incidents daily.

Authorities, including the Capitol Police and the Rocky River Police Department, did not immediately respond to inquiries about the Miller incident.

Meanwhile, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and other Democratic leaders condemned the incident, expressing relief that Miller and his family were safe. “The rise in political violence in this country is unacceptable,” Jeffries stated in a joint message. “This is a moment of crisis that demands decisive action from Congress to ensure the safety of all members serving the public.”
