US alerts to increased danger following attacks on Iran

US warns of 'heightened threat environment' after strikes on Iran

The United States has issued a warning about a potential “threatening environment” following President Trump’s order to conduct airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities on Saturday night.

On Sunday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released a bulletin through its National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS) indicating a looming threat of cyberattacks from individuals who support Iran or collaborate with the Iranian government.

“The current conflict with Iran is escalating the risk landscape in the US. There’s a significant chance of low-level cyberattacks by Iranian hacktivists targeting American networks, as well as potential strikes from cyber actors associated with the Iranian government,” the bulletin stated.

The report also noted that Iranian authorities are likely seeking to target US government officials perceived to be responsible for the death of former Iranian military leader Qasem Soleimani.

“If Iranian leaders advocate for violent retaliation through religious calls, it’s likely that some extremists may independently resort to violence in response to the conflict,” the notice warned.

Furthermore, the bulletin cautioned that the ongoing tensions “could lead to US individuals plotting additional attacks on American soil” driven by anti-Semitic or anti-Israel feelings.

“We have a responsibility to safeguard our nation and keep the public informed, particularly during periods of conflict. The escalating Israeli-Iranian tensions raise the likelihood of cyberattacks, violent acts, and anti-Semitic hate incidents,” it emphasized.

On Saturday evening, Trump announced the airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites, stating in a social media message, “Now is the time of peace!”

The strikes targeted facilities in the mountains, specifically Natanz, Esfahan, and Fordow. It was reported that six “bunker-buster” bombs were dropped on Fordow, along with more than 20 Tomahawk missiles launched at the other two sites.

This military action places the US squarely in Iran’s sights for retaliation and marks its deeper involvement in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which escalated following an Israeli airstrike on Iran on June 13.
