Trump criticizes Israel and Iran for the failed ceasefire and takes aim at media reporting.

Trump’s Rollercoaster Ceasefire Announcement

It was a whirlwind of events packed into half a day.

Late Monday, President Trump was all about celebration as he declared that Israel and Iran had come to a ceasefire agreement within 24 hours. He trumpeted this news with a “Congratulations to everyone!” on social media, proclaiming it “the official end of the 12-day war” and even offered a salute to the world. His final words carried a hopeful tone: “God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States, God bless the world!”

Still, Trump’s handling of the situation was met with skepticism. Critics noted his controversial approach to bombing Iran while hinting at a significant “change of administration.” Just hours later, things took a turn.

By early the next morning, Trump’s mood dramatically shifted to fury as Iranian missiles took the lives of at least four Israelis. Compared to the chaos, it seemed like the ceasefire was more fragile than ever, with violations erupting from both sides. Trump was particularly infuriated by Israel’s aggressive response.

Dropping expletives, he expressed his confusion, saying, “I don’t know what they’re doing.” His planned narrative crumbled as the realities of the ongoing conflict surfaced. Since its beginnings in 1948, Iran’s ties with Hamas and Hezbollah have led to persistent strife, and a peaceful resolution seemed improbable, despite Trump whispering about a Nobel Prize nomination.

If you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed by the rapid developments, you might not be alone. Not long ago, Trump had hinted at making a decision “within two weeks” about a possible attack on Iran. Today’s information felt, well, a bit unsettled.

Then, out of nowhere, Trump made a comment about a “change of government” in Iran, saying the administration knew where Ayatollah Khamenei was hiding. But, this contradicted the official narrative that they were merely targeting Iran’s nuclear ambitions—an argument supported by figures like JD Vance.

Trump then surprisingly switched gears, boasting about the ceasefire he had brokered.

This apparent “success” seemed to temporarily silence critiques from many Democrats and liberals, who struggle to acknowledge any achievements of his while questioning the legality of his unilateral actions. The debate around Congressional oversight also loomed large, echoing past choices made by leaders like Joe Biden and Barack Obama.

In a notable incident, Trump responded to Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who he labeled as “silly” for criticizing him. He quipped about her qualifications and how she was “not eligible to be appointed.” This sparked even more chatter. Ocasio-Cortez holds degrees in international relations and economics from Boston University, but the qualifications for a president—who knows, right?

Things escalated as Trump declared Ocasio-Cortez should undergo a cognitive test—an unusual suggestion, perhaps?—while criticizing her district back in Queens.

In her defense, AOC jokingly responded via social media, calling herself a “stupid girl” and redirecting any blame back to Trump and his administration for their actions in Iran.

Interestingly, the ceasefire seemed to regain some momentum. Trump reportedly reached out to Netanyahu, emphasizing that the U.S. military did what was necessary, although it seemed Netanyahu wasn’t all that enthusiastic about the agreement.

Both leaders expressed conditional acceptance of the ceasefire, hoping for mutual compliance. But Trump’s exasperation didn’t stop there; he later lashed out at the media, particularly targeting CNN.

He criticized reports about an underground nuclear site reportedly destroyed, asserting that the pilots who risked their lives deserved recognition, not scrutiny from the press.

Despite Trump’s insistence on their valor, the media’s investigation into the bombing did raise questions about its effectiveness. From earlier assessments, it appeared the strikes had only delayed Iran’s nuclear advancements temporarily, a revelation that fits neatly into the “fog of war” narrative.
