Talks between the US and Iran are viewed as ‘promising,’ says Trump’s envoy.

US, Iran talks 'promising': Trump envoy

Steve Witkov, a special envoy for the US in the Middle East, stated on Tuesday that talks with Tehran about a long-term peace deal are currently underway.

In an interview on “The Ingraham Angle” on Fox News, Witkov mentioned that discussions with Iranian officials are ongoing, coinciding with a ceasefire that, despite some challenges, seems to be holding.

“The president is adamant about wanting a comprehensive peace agreement that goes further than just a ceasefire,” Witkov told Laura Ingraham.

He added, “We’re not just speaking to each other directly, but also through intermediaries. I find the dialogue to be promising.”

An envoy from the Trump administration remarked that he is optimistic about the negotiations with Iran, believing that they could lead to “long-term prosperity” for the nation.

“We aim to revive Iran, integrate it into the League of Nations, foster long-term prosperity, and establish a peace agreement that aids economic growth in the Gulf Cooperation Council,” he explained.

Witkov also highlighted Trump’s recent approval of strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites, emphasizing that “eliminating this threat is crucial for the Gulf’s economic future.”

“And we did that,” he noted. “Now seems to be the right moment to sit down with the Iranians and work towards a comprehensive peace agreement.”

He expressed confidence, stating, “I’m very optimistic that we will achieve this.”

Ingraham pressed Witkov on whether a potential agreement would allow for uranium enrichment. He responded firmly, “No.”

Witkov elaborated, “That’s unnecessary for them. What they need is a functioning civic program similar to that of Abu Dhabi, which operates reactors without enrichment and sources fuel externally. And we can assist with that.”

His remarks come amidst reports suggesting that Saturday’s strike may have set back Tehran’s nuclear ambitions significantly. The administration has promised to look into conflicting reports regarding Trump’s claims that the attacks “destroyed” Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

Witkov and others have characterized these leaks as “rebellious.”
