How the Big Beautiful Bill will enable President Trump to complete the border wall.

Funding for Border Wall Expansion Under Trump Administration

A significant new funding bill is set to support President Trump with billions aimed at completing the US-Mexico border wall, which has ranked among the largest unfinished projects from his earlier term.

Currently, estimates suggest there are about 700 miles of walls and fencing along the 2,000-mile border. During his first term, Trump managed to construct roughly 450 miles of barriers.

This comprehensive package will allocate an impressive $46 billion to finish the wall, according to the White House, with plans to cover an estimated 700 miles.

Additionally, it includes provisions for building 900 miles of river barriers, 629 miles of secondary fencing, and 141 miles of checkpoints for vehicles and pedestrians.

Recently, the Trump administration initiated efforts to “close a significant gap in the wall that remained unfinished due to a contract cancellation during the Biden era,” as stated by the Department of Homeland Security last month.

This effort encompasses a new 27-mile section in Santa Cruz County, Arizona, and another 17 miles in Texas’s Rio Grande Valley.

The bill will also bolster border patrol resources, planning to hire 3,000 new agents and proposing an annual $10,000 bonus, as indicated by the White House.

Moreover, the termination of the Biden administration’s contentious catch-and-release policy, combined with new extensive deportation measures, has reportedly resulted in a sharp decline in border crossings.

In June, federal agents encountered an illegal crossing that hit record lows, with approximately 6,070 immigrants drawn in. Tom Homan, often referred to as Trump’s “border czar,” described this phenomenon as the “Trump effect” this past Tuesday.

“That’s considered minimal for a day under Biden. In fact, total encounters have been halved compared to Biden’s administration on numerous days. Moreover, none of the 6,070 were released into the U.S.,” he added.

“President Trump has established the safest borders this nation has ever seen, and the statistics validate that claim. We’ve not encountered such low numbers before. Not ever.”

This nearly 900-page legislation received Senate approval on Tuesday, with discussions ongoing in the House of Representatives. Trump aims for a July 4 deadline to have this bill finalized and ready for his signature.
