Texas Man Arrested for Threats Against President

A man from Texas was taken into custody on Thursday, according to federal authorities. Robert Herrera, 52, from San Antonio, is facing accusations related to making threats of interstate communication toward the president.

The concerning message was shared on a local news outlet’s Facebook page that was discussing potential visits to Hill Country following recent flooding after the July 4 holiday. However, law enforcement agencies have not made the outlet public.

As reported by the Justice Department, Herrera allegedly used the alias “Robert Heller” to comment “I won’t miss it” on a photo of Trump that featured Secret Service agents, after an attempted assassination event in Pennsylvania in July 2024.

In response to another user’s comment stating, “You won’t get a chance, I promise,” Herrera purportedly replied, “I’ll just come for you.”

This post was subsequently deleted, and federal agents arrested Herrera later that same day. If found guilty, he could face up to five years in prison for each charge brought against him. U.S. attorney Mark Lomberg is overseeing this case.

FBI special agent Aaron Tap, from the San Antonio office, stated, “While the FBI fully supports and defends all rights to free speech for all Americans, it’s vital to recognize that threats of violence do not qualify as protected speech.” He added that the FBI and its partners take such threats seriously and urged the public to do likewise. There was gratitude expressed toward the U.S. Secret Service, the San Antonio Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the U.S. Attorney General’s Office for their support.

Tap concluded by emphasizing that everyone should express their opinions in a peaceful and respectful manner that reflects the values of the nation.

Meanwhile, Trump, along with the First Lady, visited Kerrville on Friday to assess flood damage and meet with first responders. During his visit, he assured that the federal government would provide “anything Texas needs.”

This arrest follows almost a year after Trump survived an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania, where a gunman from a rooftop managed to graze Trump’s ear and tragically killed one of the attendees before being shot by a Secret Service agent.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Secret Service, and the San Antonio Police Department have not yet responded to requests for comment regarding this incident.
