SiriusXM’s Megyn Kelly Discusses Journalism and Trump
During a recent episode of “The Megyn Kelly Show,” SiriusXM host Megyn Kelly expressed her refusal to align with a media narrative she described as “Trump 2.0 CNN” regarding the “Epstein Files.” She emphasized the role of journalists in holding politicians accountable while maintaining a healthy skepticism.
Kelly’s comments came amidst a notable backlash from Republicans following the Trump administration’s handling of the Department of Justice’s investigation into the late Jeffrey Epstein and the FBI. She noted that some within the Republican party seem to have backed off the Epstein issue recently, likely due to President Donald Trump’s efforts to distance himself.
“I have many friends in the administration, and I hold a great deal of respect for this president,” Kelly said. “But my primary focus is journalism. You can trust, yet still need to verify the information.” She firmly rejected the idea of blindly following any narrative, highlighting the journalist’s responsibility to dig deeper into every story, regardless of its origin.
Supporters of Trump, including figures like TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk and House Speaker Mike Johnson, have called for increased transparency surrounding Epstein-related documents. Some, like Representative Thomas Massie, have pushed for public access to these files.
A memo from the DOJ, reportedly obtained by Axios, indicated that after a thorough investigation, the FBI found Epstein did not maintain a “client list” and concluded there was no foul play in his death in 2019. However, this has not quelled public curiosity, particularly surrounding the absence of surveillance footage from that period.
As discussions unfolded, Trump chimed in when reporters posed questions regarding Epstein, diverting the conversation towards a natural disaster in Texas that resulted in over 100 deaths. Attorney General Pam Bondi later explained that any missing footage was due to technical resets of the cameras at the Corrections Center.
Kelly, while not claiming familiarity with Epstein, expressed her desire to uncover the truth behind ongoing questions. She referenced multiple media figures, such as CNN’s Jake Tapper, who have raised issues related to President Joe Biden’s mental fitness, contrasting this with previous dismissals from Democrats when similar concerns were voiced about Biden prior to the 2020 election.
Media experts have previously defended Biden, attempting to close down conversations surrounding his mental acuity. “So, it raises the question: should we be pushing to uncover the truth? For me, the reluctance seems tied to not wanting to hurt Trump,” Kelly remarked. She doesn’t view transparency as a threat to Trump, noting that other media outlets may protect Democratic interests instead.
Kelly stressed her commitment to honest journalism, expressing frustration over the current media landscape. “I’m not here to do a media tour defending anyone. I think it’s embarrassing that we find ourselves in this position,” she stated, urging others to maintain journalistic integrity.
In response to the ongoing scrutiny, Trump defended Attorney General Bondi on Saturday, criticizing the questions surrounding Epstein’s case. Speaking to reporters outside the White House, he praised Bondi’s approach to the situation, suggesting that if she believes a release of information is warranted, it should happen.
