Barbra Streisand: Trump's Unrestrained Pride Is Ruining the Kennedy Center

Barbra Streisand Critiques Trump Over Kennedy Center Renovations

Barbra Streisand has expressed her concerns regarding President Donald Trump’s influence on the Kennedy Center, stating that his “unchecked ego” is endangering its future amidst talks of renovation.

In a detailed message on her website, she reflected on the Kennedy Center’s origins as a tribute to President John F. Kennedy after his assassination, describing Trump’s actions as “galling” and “painful.”

When Trump attempted to place his name alongside Kennedy’s at the center’s entrance, it sparked considerable backlash from artists and the public alike.

A federal judge later determined that any name change at the Kennedy Center would require Congressional approval, leading to the removal of Trump’s name from the building.

The dispute, however, didn’t end there. Following the removal, Trump insisted that a large tarp be draped over the façade, a situation that persists today. Meanwhile, the board, associated with Trump, continued to advocate for his name to be reinstated, resulting in a federal ruling that blocked that initiative.

On Tuesday, the Kennedy Center board voted to shut down operations, citing challenges with its physical state and financial stability. The next day, Trump indicated that demolition might be a possibility if actions weren’t taken promptly.

“For my administration, to engage in long-term efforts, including fundraising, I believe the Trump administration should definitely be recognized,” Trump remarked to reporters. “If we don’t act, it will close and might ultimately be torn down.”

The issue of including Trump’s name on the Kennedy Center has been a prolonged legal conflict since last year, with a federal judge ruling in May that Congressional approval is required for any renaming.

In her post, Streisand accused the proposed renovations of being a disguise for efforts to add Trump’s name to the center, stating that it has become a “bitter struggle over one man’s name and unchecked ego.”

“You can easily imagine my indignation at seeing this revered institution become the subject of such a bitter struggle over one man’s name and unchecked ego,” she wrote.

“It’s hard not to consider what President Kennedy would have envisioned for the center: not a static monument, but a vibrant space where artists could challenge, inspire, provoke, and unite Americans through the transformative power of the arts,” she added.

Streisand wrapped up her message by urging Americans to participate in the upcoming midterm elections.
