Body of Missing 23-Year-Old Woman Found in Alabama

The body of a 23-year-old woman from Alabama, who had been missing for over a week, was found on Saturday. A man has since been charged with abuse of a corpse in relation to her death.

The woman, identified as Karen Dean Hollis, was last seen in Northport around midnight on May 8, specifically near 43rd Street.

According to reports, police executed multiple search warrants and gathered a considerable amount of physical, witness, and electronic evidence. It seems that at the time of her disappearance, Hollis may have been dealing with a condition that could impair her judgment.

The Alabama Department of Law Enforcement had issued a missing person alert at the time of her disappearance. Initial inquiries suggested that foul play might have been involved, prompting collaboration between the Northport Police and the Violent Crimes Unit.

Although a person of interest was identified last week, it wasn’t until Saturday that family and friends found Hollis’ body. They were searching a location that had been highlighted as significant based on information from electronic devices.

Hollis’ remains were recovered in Greene County, with assistance from local law enforcement and the district attorney’s office. The investigation is being prioritized by both agencies, with ongoing efforts to collect more evidence.

The individual who was taken into custody last week, 44-year-old Randal Rendell DeJourney, has been charged with the abuse of a corpse and is currently held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail, with bail set at $15,000.

The authorities stated that an autopsy would be conducted to establish the cause and manner of death, and further charges may emerge once those results are reviewed. The investigation continues, with updates to follow.
