Britney Spears Avoids Prison Time in DUI Case
Britney Spears has managed to evade serious prison time following her guilty plea related to her DUI arrest in March.
Though she wasn’t present in court on Monday, her defense team worked out a plea agreement with the prosecutors.
The singer’s attorney submitted the guilty plea in her absence. The judge subsequently sentenced her to 12 months of probation, required her to complete a three-month alcohol program, and imposed a fine of $571.
Additionally, she must comply with potential searches of her vehicle and is prohibited from possessing drugs unless she has a valid prescription.
Spears’ lawyer, Michael Goldstein, mentioned that “through today’s arguments, Britney accepted responsibility for her actions. She has taken significant steps to effect positive change, which is reflected in the Ventura County District Attorney’s decision to reduce the charges in this case and dismiss the DUI charge. Britney really appreciates this discretion and is grateful for the outpouring of support she has received,” as reported.
Britney was arrested on March 4 while driving on Highway 101 near Newbury Park, California.
She showed clear signs of impairment and didn’t pass a field sobriety test.
Despite not making public appearances recently, it was revealed a few weeks ago that she intends to enter a rehabilitation facility.
