California Man Arrested with Guillotine Near Supreme Court

Philan-Tam-Duy Le, a 35-year-old from California, was taken into custody on Tuesday after he parked illegally across from the U.S. Supreme Court, transporting a wooden guillotine in the back of his pickup truck.

The Capitol Police reported that the man drove from California, and they are investigating his background to understand his reasons for being in Washington, D.C. He was charged with “Carrying a Dangerous Weapon due to possession of the guillotine.”

The guillotine, described by Forbes as a “large wooden-frame guillotine mounted on the truck bed,” is drawing attention amid rising security concerns. The Secret Service has indicated that threats against individuals they protect have significantly increased, with Director Sean Curran reporting over 10,000 investigations into such threats—a 40% increase compared to the same time in 2022. Additionally, mental health-related interventions have surged tenfold this year.

Political tensions are palpable, and some might suggest that the atmosphere has been charged by the media and political discourse.
