Scottie Scheffler’s Continued Dominance as Cameron Young Shines at Doral
As the PGA Tour calendar moves closer to another major, Scottie Scheffler stands out as the top player, consistently performing well in almost every tournament.
Rory McIlroy recently celebrated his second consecutive Masters win, showcasing remarkable skill on one of the tour’s most challenging courses. After a tough spell in major championships, McIlroy has finally achieved a career Grand Slam and appears to be a serious contender in future events.
Interestingly, Cameron Young seems to be the golfer making waves right now.
Young’s success began with a strong finish at the Genesis Invitational, tying for seventh place. He then managed to tie for third at the challenging Bay Hill course. Shortly after, he clinched what many call his unofficial “fifth major” at THE PLAYERS Championship, followed by another tie for third at the Masters.
Cameron Young Wins at Trump National Doral
The following weeks saw Young emerge victorious by a solid six-stroke lead in a key event held at the notoriously tough Trump National Doral’s “Blue Monster” course. This victory marked his second win of the season, bringing him a whopping $3.6 million in prize money, finishing at -19 compared to Scheffler’s -13. Notably, President Trump was present to witness the win.
Addressing the president’s attendance, Young noted that the atmosphere was quite different than usual. In a post-tournament press conference, he shared, “When you go out…you’re doing your job, but everything leading up to that—this place obviously has Secret Service and police around, which changes the vibe a bit.” He mentioned a minor alteration in his routine, highlighting some confusion caused by the security measures.
After the round, he took a moment to thank President Trump for hosting the event, describing the encounter as complimentary and respectful. “He really appreciates how good everyone on the PGA Tour is,” Young added. “It was a pleasant exchange.”
Reflecting on his experience with the president, Young expressed gratitude for the opportunity to play in front of such a notable figure. “It’s very unique. He’s a powerful person, and it’s an honor to perform while he’s watching. I’m really thankful for him and his family for allowing us to enjoy this venue and host a great tournament.”
In today’s climate, it’s refreshing to hear athletes express appreciation in these situations rather than diving into political discourse, especially with a president who values the sport as much as Trump does with golf.
Looking ahead, Young is setting his sights on his first major win at the PGA Championship, kicking off at Aronimink on May 14th.
