Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said Kamala Harris is off to a “great start” in garnering support for the presidential bid, but stopped short of endorsing her in a joint statement on Monday.
“Vice President Kamala Harris is off to a great start by promising to seek the presidential nomination through a grassroots, transparent process established by the Democratic National Committee,” said Senators Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Jeffries (D-N.Y.).
“She is rapidly garnering support from grassroots delegates across the country,” they added. “We look forward to meeting Vice President Harris in person in the near future as we work together to unify the Democratic Party and the country.”
House Speaker Emeritus Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was one of a handful of Democratic leaders to endorse Harris on Monday.
“Make no mistake politically: Kamala Harris is an incredibly intelligent woman in politics, and I am confident she will lead us to victory in November,” Pelosi said in a statement.
