Response to Charlie Kirk’s Assassination Sparks Concern
Political analyst Britt Hume shared his insights on Fox News regarding the left’s reaction to the assassination of Charlie Kirk, suggesting it may have long-lasting political repercussions.
During a segment with host Brett Bayer, Hume highlighted that the online backlash following the death of the Turning Point USA founder mirrored reactions typically directed toward former President Donald Trump. He emphasized that this response could lead to similar consequences down the line.
“The way people are reacting to Charlie Kirk is largely influenced by their feelings about Donald Trump,” Hume noted. “Kirk was well-traveled in circles that generally supported Trump, and his agenda reflected this too. The reaction feels rather extreme and, honestly, quite hateful.”
He pointed out that many Americans still uphold basic human decency, especially in times of tragedy.
“People in this country have long believed that it’s simply not right to speak ill of the dead. This isn’t how most people across the globe would react either. We’ve witnessed some troubling responses, and it’s certainly toxic for many,” he remarked.
Hume also expressed that Kirk’s open embrace of his beliefs might have inspired others to feel empowered to do the same.
“Kirk’s way of living and messaging was central to his identity. I suspect his approach could have fostered a new environment in which young people feel more allowed to express their faith, especially following his death. I hear that attendance in churches was notably higher this past Sunday, which suggests something positive might arise, largely due to how Kirk lived his life,” he explained.
Authorities arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, who allegedly shot and killed Kirk during an event at Utah Valley University where Kirk was addressing students early Friday morning.
On a related note, Tom Elliot, the founder of Grabien News, shared clips showing left-leaning figures celebrating Kirk’s assassination. In contrast, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith condemned the online praise for Kirk’s murder on SiriusXM’s show last Thursday.
Several individuals have faced job loss for either laughing at Kirk’s death or for making online comments that celebrated the assassination. While some Democratic officials have pitifully targeted Kirk in their grieving, others have drawn parallels between his murder and the events of January 6, 2021, using the Capitol riots to rationalize their reactions and diminish public sympathy.
