Political Aspirant Arrested in Florida

Kevin Cichowski’s ambitions for a political career appear to be dashed following his arrest linked to assaults on two elderly individuals in Florida last week.

On Friday morning, a 911 call was placed from a home in Palm Coast regarding a “domestic disturbance involving a weapon.” Reports indicated that the suspect used a cane to strike one victim and threw a cellphone at another. The situation escalated, leading to threats made by the suspect against both the victims and law enforcement.

One of the victims, who called 911, reported that Cichowski threatened to kill him and mentioned he would harm law enforcement if they arrived. Disturbingly, the victims were confined in a bedroom and were unable to exit the home, as one was described as “bedridden.” Fortunately, officers at the scene were able to help them escape without further incident.

The suspect was identified as 46-year-old Kevin Cichowski.

Body camera footage released shows Cichowski muttering about his parents during his arrest. Although the sheriff’s office hasn’t confirmed it, there’s speculation that the two victims are indeed his mother and father. In the video, he expressed disbelief over the events, saying, “I can’t believe this is happening,” and insisted, “I did nothing wrong. This is insane.”

Cichowski faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, assault on senior citizens, and robbery by sudden snatching, among others. He was reportedly taken into custody after voicing suicidal thoughts while being transported to jail. The Florida Baker Act allows for the detention of individuals experiencing a mental health crisis who may harm themselves or others.

As of Monday night, he remained in custody. Notably, Cichowski also had prior charges from 2024 for domestic assault, strangulation, and false imprisonment.

A post on Facebook by the sheriff’s office highlighted Cichowski’s foray into politics, noting he was running for Governor of Florida and had previously campaigned for Mayor of Palm Coast in 2021.

According to the Florida Department of State, Cichowski did register to run for governor as a Democrat on March 24. However, even prior to his arrest, his chances seemed slim as the Democratic field is quite competitive, featuring notable candidates such as former U.S. Rep. David Jolly and Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings. A recent public opinion poll indicated limited support for Cichowski’s candidacy.

Attempts to reach Cichowski’s campaign and the Florida Democratic Party for comments were unsuccessful.
