Education Secretary Linda McMahon vows to make education ‘better’ for children

President Donald Trump signed the much-anticipated executive order at the White House on Thursday, beginning to demolish the Department of Education, closing the campaign promises and setting up a Congressional showdown.

Trump repeatedly vowed to the 2024 campaign trail, shutting down federal agencies and returning school power to the state. Education DepartmentHowever, it was created by Congress in 1979 and cannot be unilaterally closed by executive action. It can only be officially dismantled by the act of Parliament.

Republicans maintain a slim majority in both the House and Senate. R-La soon after Trump signed the executive order in the East Room. Senator Bill Cassidy announced in a post X that he will submit the law to achieve the president's goals.

Education Secretary Linda McMahon has confirmed that the agency will face several hurdles in the coming months, but has pledged to work with Congress to get the job done.

“I want Congress to be a partner in this because both sides of the aisle know that students can't stand because what's going on in our country's education is failing.”

Data from a national assessment of educational progress, commonly known as the National Report Card, shows a number of learning maturities of 39% in fourth grade and 28% in eighth grade. The reading comprehension level is 31% and 30%, respectively, and the reading comprehension level is not very good.

Democrats issued a statement shortly after Trump's executive order was signed, denounced his decision.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck SchumerDn.Y. said the move only hurts students. “This horrifying decision by Donald Trump is felt in the quality of education that teachers, parents, school leaders and children receive. Property taxes nationwide will go up, but the quality of many schools will go down,” he said.

McMahon told Fox News Chief Political Anchor Brett Bayer that he hopes the Trump administration will improve and get more opportunities for students.

“We want to improve our children's education. The President is an absolute advocate for school choice and we will work very hard to ensure that our children are not detained in schools where they fail,” she said.

“I think going back to basics is the best way to do that. You need to teach maths, English, literacy and writing. You don't need to teach ideology. You have to make sure you teach your teachers.”

She admitted that she could immediately quit her job if the education department was hampered, but during that time she said she wanted students to take care of her.
