Debunking Fake Image of White House Correspondents Dinner Shooter

A recent photo circulating on social media, claiming to show Cole Allen, the man involved in the White House Correspondents Dinner shooting, wearing an Israel Defense Forces sweatshirt, has been identified as fake and likely generated by artificial intelligence, according to analyses by The Post and Storyful.

This image has sparked intense anti-Israel and anti-Semitic conspiracy theories regarding the assassination attempt on President Trump that occurred recently. In the photo, which depicts the 31-year-old Allen relaxing in an armchair, he appears to hold a beer in one hand while making a peace sign with the other.

However, closer scrutiny of the image reveals several inconsistencies typical of AI-generated visuals. For instance, the real Allen has a mole on his temple that is conspicuously absent in the fake image, which instead shows a mole on his cheek.

Moreover, comparisons of the verified photo of Allen show clear discrepancies in the structure of his ear as well as the depiction of his fingers in the suspected AI-generated image. It’s also worth noting that the waistline in the IDF image appears to merge unnaturally with the armrest of the chair, and his pants seem to extend well beyond where they should meet his torso.

In fact, other issues arise in the supposed image of the beer can Allen is holding, as it appears to merge with his skin. Even the IDF logo has inaccuracies; letters in “Defense” are rendered incorrectly, merging the “N” and “S” which gives the impression of a “U.”

Various AI detection services have confirmed that this image is likely a creation of AI.

The attempt on President Trump’s life last Saturday was the third incident since he sustained a gunshot wound to the ear during a 2024 campaign rally. Naturally, this has led to a surge of wild conspiracy theories, many steeped in age-old anti-Semitic narratives.

Reports suggest that Allen tried to get through a security checkpoint at the correspondents dinner but was intercepted by security personnel in the hotel hallway before he could enter. Secret Service agents fired five shots, all of which missed. In the ensuing chaos, Allen reportedly discharged a round, striking an agent in the chest; fortunately, the agent’s bulletproof vest protected him.

Ultimately, President Trump and several White House staff were safely evacuated during the incident.
