Ex-Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel criticizes coach Nick Sirianni following painful London defeat: ‘You lost the game’

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni employs ChatGPT to develop fresh communication strategies, according to a report.

The Philadelphia Eagles made the long trip across the Atlantic, only to end up losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars in a surprising turn of events. Former All-Pro cornerback Asante Samuel has voiced his criticism about this outcome.

With just eight seconds remaining and the Eagles ahead by one, a squib kick sealed their fate instead of a safer option. This decision, made by head coach Nick Sirianni, allowed Jacksonville a chance for a last-minute victory.

During an appearance on the “Say What Needs To Be Said” podcast, Samuel held Sirianni accountable for the collapse in this 19-17 game.

“You lost the game for your team,” he stated. “Sure, teammates will support the coach, saying it’s not on him but on us. But calling a squib kick is standard practice. It’s something that’s done all the time at the end of games.”

Samuel criticized Sirianni for what he described as a lack of situational awareness in a crucial moment.

“Nick Sirianni must have either zoned out or wasn’t paying attention. There’s no way your team works so hard, only to let them down like that,” Samuel emphasized. “He should have made the right call.”

This misstep overshadowed what could have been a hard-fought win. Philadelphia was already dealing with injuries to key players like Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith, yet they pulled ahead 17-16 thanks to Jake Elliott’s 48-yard field goal.

However, Jacksonville’s Ameer Abdullah swiftly responded by returning the ensuing kickoff for 53 yards, allowing Cam Little to kick the winning 57-yard field goal as time ticked away.

The defeat brought the Eagles to a record of 2-3, while the Jaguars celebrated their third consecutive win.

After the game, Sirianni took full responsibility for the decision that cost them the match. “I didn’t make the right decision, and I lost us that game,” he told reporters. “It’s painful because the players fought hard, and I let them down with my choices.”

When questioned about the eight seconds that remained before Elliott’s kick, quarterback Jalen Hurts stated that game management was out of his hands.

“It’s not my place to micromanage that,” Hurts explained. “I was just executing the play call.” He reflected on whether he should have intervened, indicating that these thoughts can keep him up at night, but ultimately he was there to carry out the plan.

Sirianni reinforced that Hurts wasn’t supposed to make decisions on the fly. “Jalen’s job is to execute the calls we give him. He has enough to focus on,” he asserted.

Even if Sirianni stresses the importance of sticking to the roles, it’s clear that Hurts is grappling with the aftermath of questionable strategies, and Samuel believes there should be consequences for the head coach. Addressing this issue won’t be an easy task.
