Former High School Basketball Coach Indicted on Multiple Sex Charges
A grand jury has indicted a former high school basketball coach from Alabama on 32 sex crime charges following allegations of abuse involving students. Reports indicate that Paige Adams, who previously coached at Cold Springs High School, was arrested on Tuesday and taken to the Cullman County Jail.
Before these serious allegations emerged, Adams was praised as a “great role model for the youth of Cullman County.” The 35-year-old is facing two significant felony charges: one for engaging in sexual acts and another for sexual contact with a student under 19 years old.
In addition to the felonies, Adams has been slapped with 30 misdemeanor counts concerning the distribution of obscene materials to students. Following his arrest, he was released on a $225,000 bail but is required to wear an electronic monitoring device.
“This grand jury indictment clearly indicates the severity of the charges,” remarked Cullman County District Attorney Champ Crocker. Just days prior to Adams’s resignation on March 25, it came to light that he had solicited explicit material from students on at least two occasions. Furthermore, he allegedly sent obscene content to them multiple times within a three-week stretch.
Adams was in his first year as the varsity girls’ basketball coach when he resigned and was subsequently escorted off the premises. The superintendent of Cullman County Schools, Shane Barnett, emphasized the importance of student safety, stating that their focus remains on protecting students.
Interestingly, Adams’s husband filed for divorce shortly after the allegations surfaced, requesting sole custody of their child. The couple had been married since 2015 but separated around the time of Adams’s resignation.
As for details about the alleged victim, authorities have not disclosed their age or whether they attended Cold Springs High School. Adams’s next court appearance is scheduled for May 22.
