Former Pastor Arrested in Child Sex Sting
A former pastor renowned for leading a ministry focused on gay conversion therapy was apprehended after he allegedly arranged to meet with a minor for sexual purposes, as reported by Florida police.
Alan Chambers, 54, is alleged to have sent explicit messages, including sexual images, to an undercover officer posing as a 14-year-old boy.
Chambers had previously expressed remorse to the LGBTQ+ community for what he termed “years of unjust suffering and judgment” by both his organization and the church in general.
According to prosecutors, between February and May, Chambers communicated through platforms like Telegram and Snapchat, trying to set up encounters with fictitious minors.
During these exchanges, he discussed “forbidden love” and shared photos that included images of his body in suggestive poses.
The undercover detective reported that Chambers requested to meet in an Uber on April 10. Additionally, it appears several of his messages were deleted, likely out of fear of potential repercussions.
Chambers initially gained attention in 2013 when he publicly denounced conversion therapy after revealing his attraction to men, despite being married to a woman. He committed to closing conversion ministries and fostering understanding between Christians and the LGBTQ+ community.
His recent arrest occurred on Tuesday during a traffic stoppage at Aroma Avenue and Strathy Lane. He faces multiple charges, including solicitation of a minor and the illegal use of a communication device tailored for conversations with minors.
Bail has been set at $15,000, and he has been instructed to refrain from any contact with individuals under 18 years of age.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office commented, “Today, our detectives stopped a predator before it could harm a child. … Parents, please monitor your children’s internet and social media activity. You are the first line of defense.”
