Substance Found in Van of Deceased Illegal Alien
The FBI has reported that a substance resembling methamphetamine was discovered in the van of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, an illegal alien who was shot in Houston. This information comes from federal documents.
Araujo’s death on July 7 at the hands of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents led to widespread protests against President Trump’s immigration policies. The situation has raised many questions and sparked significant public outcry.
According to the reports, an officer claimed to have spotted “three plastic bags containing a white crystal-like substance” on the dashboard of the vehicle.
The affidavit submitted for the FBI’s search warrant mentioned that a bag containing a “white crystal-like substance” that seemed “consistent with methamphetamine” was found in Araujo’s van. Authorities are currently seeking authorization to conduct further searches for evidence of drug possession with intent to distribute and other drug-related charges.
At the time of the traffic stop attempt, Araujo was in a “target vehicle” carrying three passengers. He allegedly failed to obey the officers’ commands and drove across a median. Following protocol, ICE officers did not pursue him immediately but approached again after he relocated to Canal Street.
The affidavit states that while the officers were outside the van, they noticed “three plastic bags containing a white crystal-like substance” in the dashboard area. This claim is backed by photographs included in the affidavit.
Interestingly, the substances were reportedly packaged in a manner that suggested they were ready for distribution or manufacturing, according to the affidavit.
In contrast, Democratic Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare expressed skepticism about the FBI’s findings, asserting that he doesn’t believe the substances identified were illegal drugs. He mentioned there might be pertinent information not yet made public, and indicated that testing of the substances by the FBI may occur shortly.
Previously, ICE stated that Araujo allegedly “weaponized” his vehicle, which resulted in the fatal shooting; however, three passengers have contested this portrayal. Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia from Texas has also weighed in on the matter.
Moreover, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the Texas Rangers will look into the shooting incident.
In the days following Araujo’s death, the Department of Homeland Security had temporarily halted traffic enforcement, but this decision was quickly reversed by the president, who insisted that such stops would continue.
