Disturbing Incident in Northern California

A father in Northern California hurried home with his 5-year-old child and pregnant wife to confront a man who was recorded yelling death threats and insisting that the homeowner open the door.

Footage from last Tuesday shows a man on the porch of a home located on Burbank Court in Fairfield, demanding entry through a Ring doorbell camera. According to a local news report, the man claimed he just wanted to “make sure there’s nothing wrong,” suggesting that something was amiss.

When the homeowner asked the man to leave, the situation escalated even further. The man began kicking the door and yelled, “Where’s my daughter? Who’s with her? Open this damn door or I’ll break it down!”

In an unexpected twist, he also identified himself as a fictional character, Harry Dresden, from an urban fantasy series. He was heard saying, “Open the door. This is my neighborhood… come on. Or I’ll finish you off. Do you understand me?”

As the intruder continued his raucous attempts to gain entry, the homeowner’s wife and child managed to hide in the garage. Failing to break in through the front, the man broke through a gate and accessed the home via a sliding glass door.

Inside, video captured the intruder moving through the rooms before the homeowner returned with a shovel. The footage, however, does not show the confrontation; it only captures the ensuing noise.

Officials later confirmed that a physical altercation took place between the homeowner and the intruder, resulting in injuries to both parties. Police found the intruder outside the residence, and he was taken to a medical facility before being booked into jail.

Jason Nichols, 30, was arrested on charges including robbery and threats, along with additional counts of child nuisance and sexual abuse that were added later. During his court appearance, he seemed to contest some of the charges but did not enter a plea.

While it’s unclear whether Nichols was specifically targeting the homeowner’s child, authorities noted that he lived nearby and the family did not know him.

Nichols’ bail was set at $250,000, and he remained in custody. His next court date is scheduled for April 23.
