One of the students injured in the California school shooting has been identified as a kindergartener named Elias.
Elias, 5, was shot in the chest and abdomen Wednesday afternoon at Feather River Seventh-day Adventist School, according to a verified GoFundMe page posted by his grandparents.
“The bullet penetrated his chest and abdomen, impaling and injuring multiple organs before exiting,” wrote Monte and Debbie Wolford, the grandparents of little Elias. . “He was airlifted to hospital and underwent emergency surgery to stop the bleeding.
“He is currently sedated and ventilated in the PICU, awaiting further surgery. He is in critical but stable condition at this time.”
Elias was just one of two students injured in the shooting, the other a 6-year-old kindergartener. The other victim is also in serious but stable condition.
The shooter, an adult male, died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His motives remain unclear.
Feather River, a school with just 33 students, is located outside of Palermo, about 72 miles north of Sacramento.
