Graham: Iranian missile attack on Israel deserves ‘overwhelming response’ from US

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R.S.C.) reacted to Iran's missile launch into Israel, saying the attack merited an “overwhelming response” from the United States.

“This missile attack on Israel should be a breaking point, and I call on the Biden administration to coordinate an overwhelming response with Israel, starting with Iran's oil refining capabilities,” Graham said in a statement Tuesday. ” he said.

His statement followed news that Iran had fired a missile at Israel.

Israeli military spokesman Maj. Gen. Daniel Hagari said sirens were blaring across Israel and civilians were warned to remain vigilant and obey authorities' orders.

The Israeli military said its air defense systems were fully operational and ready to intercept the missile.

Graham was one of the first U.S. lawmakers to react to the news on Tuesday.

In a statement, he called the Iranian regime “religious Nazis” who want to “cleanse Islam and attack America.”

He called on the Biden administration to attack Iranian oil refineries.

“These oil refineries need to be hit hard because that's the funding that perpetuates the regime's terror,” Graham said. “My prayers are with the people of Israel. May God continue to bless Israel.”

The Iranian attack came just hours after Israel launched a raid on southern Lebanon targeting the Iranian-backed militant group Hezbollah.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said: Said in X's post He believes Israel will retaliate for the recent attacks.

“A major (non-symbolic) missile strike against Israel by the Iranian regime. A massive retaliatory reaction by Israel inside Iran is sure to follow,” Rubio posted.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) said online “Pray for Israel.”

The missile launches followed weeks of escalation between groups in the Middle East amid growing fears of an all-out regional war.
