Half of Americans in the new poll say President Trump's policies have deterred the US economy in the first seven weeks of his inauguration.
in The CNN poll was released on Thursday51% of respondents said that Trump's policies had worsened the country's economic situation, while 28% said the conditions had improved and 21% had no effect.
Asked to assess the country's current economic situation, respondents to the March poll provided the same ratings they did in the January poll, just before Trump took office for the second time. Both polls say 28% say it's good, while 72% say it's bad.
However, respondents' expectations for the economy a year ahead have slightly worsened compared to the January survey.
In a new poll, 49% of respondents say they expect the economy to be in good condition in the year. This is a 7 percentage point reduction from 56% in January. Similarly, those who say they expect the economy to be poor in one year are up 7 percentage points from 44% who said the same thing in January.
The investigation aims to help Trump wipe out federal budgets and labor, and delay sudden tariffs on two of the US's biggest trading partners, Canada and Mexico.
When asked how spending cuts affect “you and your family,” 51% said they hurt, 22% said they would help, and 27% said they would not do either.
As to how the cuts will affect the “US economy,” 55% say it hurts, 34% say they will help, and 11% say they will not do either. As to how they affect the “area where you live”, 52% say they hurt, 22% say they will help, and 26% say they will not do either.
Trump's support for the middle class was approved by 43%, and 57% said they disapproved. In terms of inflation treatment, 44% say they have approved, while 56% say they disapproved.
The survey from March 6-9, 2025 included 1,206 respondents, with an error of 3.3 percentage points.
