Vice President Harris on Sunday called on Israel to increase aid to Gaza, citing a World Food Program (WFP) report.
“The United Nations reports that no food has entered northern Gaza for almost two weeks. Israel must urgently do more to facilitate the flow of aid to those in need.” and Mr. Harris mentioned in the post “Civilians must be protected and have access to food, water and medicine. International humanitarian law must be respected.”
in Report has been published “The escalating violence in northern Gaza is having a dire impact on food security for thousands of Palestinian families,” WFP said on Saturday. No food aid has been received since then.”
According to a report by the United Nations WFP, there were the following locations:[f]Food distribution centers, kitchens and bakeries in northern Gaza have been forced to close due to factors including “airstrikes, ground operations and evacuation orders.”
“The north is basically cut off and we cannot operate there,” Antoine Renard, WFP's Palestine director, said in a statement. “WFP has been on the ground since the crisis began. Despite mounting challenges, we are committed to delivering lifesaving food every day, but we are struggling to ensure safe and sustainable access. Without it, it would be virtually impossible to get food to people in need.”
Last week marked the first anniversary of the war between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas. More than 42,000 Palestinians have been killed since the war began on October 7 last year, when Hamas invaded southern Israel, killing about 1,200 people.
Tensions in the Middle East have been rising ever since, with Iran firing a barrage of missiles at Israel earlier this month following a pager explosion and an Israeli attack in Lebanon.
The Hill has contacted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office.
