Hispanic voters in Nevada say economic conditions making some consider voting Trump

Hispanic voters in the key battleground state of Nevada told CNN's John King that the economy is causing them to consider voting for former President Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris.

“A lot of people have been calling me and calling us and, you know, talking about Latinos voting for Trump,” said Rafael Cerros Jr., who started a radio station in Nevada with his friend Rogelio Regalado in 2020. The two said the reason some Latino voters are leaning toward Trump is “100 percent” down to the economy.

King spoke to voters We asked voters in Henderson, Nevada, who they plan to vote for in November and what they've heard from others in their community.

“A lot of small businesses are struggling,” Cerros told CNN. “We're still not 100% back to where we were, especially with inflation going on.”

Policy groups say Harris' small business tax cuts are being drowned out by other tax hikes

Zoila Sanchez, a Nevada real estate agent, also acknowledged in an interview that the price was too high, but she was confident Harris would fix it.

But Sanchez said he has heard a big increase in Hispanic voters, especially male voters, considering Trump.

“I want to understand,” she told CNN, “but I don't understand it. I really don't understand it… I think this is kind of a macho thing.”

Antonio Munoz, a former police officer who now owns a bar, said he tends to support Harris but wants to know more about her policies.

“I checked her website, and you read it, and it's not specific,” Munoz told CNN. “We need to move forward. We need a different plan to get through this inflation that is really hurting a lot of businesses… She should be more direct.”

Muñoz also told the outlet that some of his friends are nostalgic for the pre-COVID economy under the Trump administration, and suggested that Nevada's political climate could be better for Trump because the state will elect a Republican governor in 2022.

“He's grown up,” Muñoz said of Trump's standing among Hispanics. “I have friends who were Democrats who have changed their minds. They feel like the country is not moving in the right direction.”

A CBS reporter visited several restaurants in Nevada on Wednesday and found only three Harris supporters there.

“What's really unbelievable is that at every restaurant, we only found one person who wanted to talk to us who was a Harris supporter. We tried everything. We approached everyone except for this one person. But people are really excited about Trump,” CBS correspondent Adriana Diaz said.
