Homeowner shoots one intruder, other intruder commits suicide during ‘targeted’ home invasion, California police say

Police in California are investigating a bizarre alleged home invasion that was thwarted by an armed homeowner, resulting in one suspect being shot to death and the other committing suicide.

newport beach police department they said they were called to the scene of a possible home invasion around 4:45 a.m. Tuesday. The caller told police that someone inside the home shot and killed one of the two suspects involved in the break-in.

When they arrived at Vista Luci’s home, they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds outside holding a shotgun next to him. The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.

Police then began searching for a second suspect in the home invasion.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department was able to locate the second suspect hiding in the bushes near the home. Moments later, it was discovered that he had apparently committed suicide by shooting himself in the head.

NBPD Sergeant Steve Oberon told reporters. media briefing They said they believe the incident was a targeted incident rather than a random home invasion.

He went on to say that the family knows one or both of the suspects and does not believe the incident was necessarily a robbery.

News helicopter footage showed a large police response, with several armed SWAT team officers approaching the front door and searching the second floor.

Police said the man shot and killed two suspects with a 9mm rifle, while two women and a child were in the room.

Newport Beach Mayor Will O’Neill issued a strong statement against those attempting to commit crimes in the city.

“I can tell you right now, if you come to Newport Beach to commit a crime, we will protect ourselves, and today is an example of that.” Said O’Neill.

KTTV-TV reported that the home was located within the wealthy and upscale Pelican Heights neighborhood. The gated community is guarded by private security guards 24 hours a day. Police believe the suspects broke into the victim’s home because they knew her.
