The bill introduced in the House allows the Secret Service to reimburse local law enforcement agencies for the costs of protecting President Trump.
Rep. Tom Keene Jr. (RN.J.) The bill has been reintroduced From the last legislature, if passed, he will provide support to groups in Florida, New Jersey and New York as he strengthened the security of his residence after an assassination attempt last July.
“The Secret Service relies on strong collaboration with local law enforcement agencies to effectively meet its mission,” Keene said in a statement. “A lot of that responsibility now falls under small town taxpayers and local budgets. Local law enforcement needs to have the resources needed to make the job successful.”
While Trump was campaigning at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, gunmen fired fire and heard the president in mid-July. The Secret Service and local law enforcement agencies were keenly criticized for incidents relating to misunderstanding and lack of planning.
A few weeks later, the Secret Service noticed a man with a rifle pointing to Trump's West Palm Beach on the Florida golf course.
The president has since been deployed in more law enforcement agencies, with various precautions being taken while he was still campaigning.
Keene said Trump is in place because local agencies with assets, including the Mar Lago Estate in Florida, Trump Tower in New York and the Trump National Bedminster Golf Course in the district of lawmakers, are in need of support.
Palm Beach County predicts the president's security bill will reach more than $45 million this year, which could be even higher if Trump continues to visit Mar Arago most weekends. It has been reported.
Keene said he is reintroducing the law. stall Last year's home was to “make the funds needed to support all security operations easy to use.”
Keene is joined by Rep. Lois Frankel (D-fla.), and the district has Mar-a-Lago in sponsoring the bill.
“Local communities run on a limited budget, and diverting critical resources to cover the costs of protecting the president has a major impact on our capabilities,” Frankel said in a statement. “That's why we are proud to jointly guide this bipartisan law with Rep. Kean Jr. to ensure that local law enforcement agencies have much needed federal assistance to fully refund these important expenses.”
