Idaho Bar’s Promotion Sparks Mixed Reactions

Mark Fitzpatrick, the owner of Old State Saloon in Idaho, has found himself at the center of a heated debate after a promotion offering “free beer” to those assisting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with identifying and deporting undocumented immigrants went viral. The post, shared on X on November 29, has garnered nearly 8 million views and even prompted the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to share it, leading to both excitement and a wave of hostility, including threats against Fitzpatrick’s safety and calls for violence against his bar.

In a conversation with FOX News Digital, Fitzpatrick explained that his bar has long been a platform for expressing conservative Christian viewpoints. He noted that speaking out in a world rife with “deception” can provoke intense reactions from some people.

This isn’t the first time Fitzpatrick’s efforts to spark conversation have stirred controversy; back in 2024, he launched Heterosexual Awesomeness Month, which offered discounts and free drinks to heterosexual couples in response to Pride Month celebrations. He has attributed his latest promotion to what he considers the failures of past immigration policies during Joe Biden’s presidency, describing them as a catalyst for undesirable immigration.

Fitzpatrick’s initiative, meant to bolster law enforcement efforts, did not go without backlash. The bar has publicly shared numerous social media exchanges with those who expressed opposition to its conservative stance. He expressed frustration over the attacks, stating that “what liberals want to do is attack you and slander you.”

Amid the backlash, Fitzpatrick revealed that he and his family have received alarming messages, including threats to burn down the saloon. “Some people outright say I should die for this,” he remarked, calling such sentiments truly despicable.

Despite the negative feedback, Fitzpatrick encouraged dissenters to visit his establishment, assuring that he is open to conversations with anyone willing to discuss their views. He believes that dialogue could lead to mutual understanding.

In response to the ongoing backlash, Fitzpatrick remains unfazed, stating that he feels more determined than ever to uphold his views. He plans to continue promoting events like “Manly American Monday,” where men supporting ICE can drink free just for stepping in, and other promotions aimed at couples and individuals speaking out against illegal immigration.

Fitzpatrick pointed out that online criticisms reveal more about those making them than about him or his establishment. He claims to have received overwhelming support from community members as well, including positive letters and messages, even as he deals with threats and negativity.

He acknowledged that he likely won’t see a large response to the free beer promotion but feels compelled to act based on community involvement with ICE’s enforcement. Ultimately, he believes the promotion goes beyond just beer; it’s about highlighting a critical issue and fostering a broader conversation around it.
