As January nears, officials in Carson City are reminding local homeowners that the deadline for property tax payments—set by Nevada law—is just around the corner.
The Treasurer’s Office in Carson City has announced that the third installment of this year’s property taxes must be paid by Monday, January 5, 2026.
The property tax year spans from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026. Nevada law specifies the payment dates and imposes penalties for any late or missed payments that property owners might have.
While this notice is specifically for taxpayers in Carson City, it’s worth noting that property taxes in Nevada are managed at the local level. This means homeowners pay their taxes to the county or city treasurer’s office, not directly to the state.
For more general details on property taxes state-wide, you can refer to the Nevada Department of Taxation.
Homeowners in Carson City have various options for making payments. One can pay online at this link until Wednesday, January 7, 2026.
Starting Thursday, January 8, 2026, payments will be accepted at the locations listed at carsoncity.gov/tax.
You can also make payments through your bank’s online bill pay, including your parcel number for reference.
Another option is to pay in person or via mail at the Carson City Treasurer’s Office located at 201 N. Carson City, Suite 5, Carson City, NV 89701. Additionally, there is a green drop box installed on the east side of City Hall for convenience.
The Treasury advises mortgage holders to verify whether their lender is managing property tax payments on their behalf.
City officials are also urging property and business owners to check their status regarding water, sewer, and stormwater payments.
Even though the city typically doesn’t cut off water services for nonpayment, any outstanding balances will be added to property taxes when new tax rates are announced in July.
For instance, if there’s a $300 balance for water, sewer, or stormwater bills by the end of June 2026, and it remains unpaid, that amount will be added to a new property tax bill in July 2026. This balance will show as a special assessment on the parcel. If tax payments are made through a mortgage account, it can potentially increase those mortgage payments.
If you have questions about property tax or your water, sewer, and stormwater account balances in Carson City, you can reach out to the Carson City Finance Department at 775-887-2092 or via email at treasurer@carsoncity.gov.
