Horrific Attack on Toddler in Texas Park

Last week, an incident in Texas left a young girl with severe injuries after an illegal immigrant, reportedly under the influence of a potent drug, attacked her. It has been two years since the Biden administration overlooked his deportation despite prior violent offenses.

The attack occurred at a San Antonio park on April 18, affecting 3-year-old Amelia Perez. Her family reported that she suffered deep wounds and lost two teeth as a result of the assault, leaving her with lasting trauma.

Gabriela Perez, Amelia’s mother, expressed her anger, stating, “That beast was abusing my baby! She can’t sleep because she’s scared… She’ll never be the same again.”

On that fateful Saturday, Gabriela, her daughter Amelia, father Xavier Estrada, and grandfather Richard Arriaza intended to enjoy a peaceful day fishing at Espada Park.

At around 2 p.m., as Gabriela took Amelia to the restroom, a man suddenly attacked them. Identified as 24-year-old Atharva Vyas, an undocumented immigrant from India, he physically assaulted Gabriela before targeting Amelia.

Vyas, allegedly on “wax,” a highly concentrated cannabis product, pinned Amelia down and inflicted serious injuries, including biting her face.

As chaos unfolded, witnesses rushed to help, and Xavier arrived after hearing the commotion. A call for 911 went out, and desperate onlookers shouted for the attacker to be stopped.

After being restrained by bystanders, Vyas struggled against the crowd until the police arrived, finding him semi-conscious.

Emergency services transported Amelia and her family, shaken and bloodied, to Christus Children’s Hospital. Gabriela recalled Amelia’s haunting stillness as doctors treated her.

Vyas was subsequently charged with multiple offenses, including injury to a child and illegal entry. His situation had prior complications; after entering the U.S. on a student visa in 2023, he was arrested shortly thereafter but his visa remained intact at that time.

After the attack, ICE requested that local authorities detain Vyas for federal action, criticizing policies that allowed individuals like him to stay in the country.

“This savage assault was completely preventable,” stated Acting Assistant Secretary of State Lauren Biss, blaming the administration for not acting decisively after earlier arrests.

Gabriela, through a GoFundMe page, expressed the enormous emotional toll the incident had on their lives. “We need people to send their prayers,” she said, prioritizing their healing and recovery.

She reflected, “Even though we are trying to protect our children, this is a dangerous world with dangerous people.”
