In a recent escalation, Iran and Israel have engaged in a series of ballistic missile and drone strikes, with the situation evolving as both sides continue their assaults despite global concerns.
On Saturday, Israeli forces reportedly targeted significant energy facilities in Iran, as well as elements of Tehran’s growing nuclear program.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that they struck the “Headquarters of the SPND Nuclear Project” along with other sites, claiming that these locations housed vital nuclear archives belonging to the Iranian regime.
According to the New York Times, Israeli forces also attacked a depot in Sharan, and Iranian state media reported that the Shahl Ray oil refinery was among the targets.
The Islamic Republic News Agency indicated that initial assessments showed fuel levels in both tanks were low and that the situation was under control.
Additionally, IDF drones targeted Southpur, noted as the world’s largest natural gas field shared between Iran and Qatar, according to Iranian reports.
Israeli air defense systems were active, intercepting incoming Iranian missiles.
As a result of the strikes, the death toll has reached seven. Reports indicate that three women lost their lives in Western Galilee, in the northwest of Israel. Central Israel also saw the death of a woman in her 60s, according to Magen David Adom, which serves as Israel’s national emergency response agency.
This conflict escalated significantly starting Thursday night when Israel launched a heavy wave of strikes targeting Iran’s nuclear capabilities, leading to the deaths of several Iranian generals and many nuclear scientists.
In response, Iran launched ballistic missiles that struck major urban areas, including Tel Aviv. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the U.S. was not involved in Israel’s initial attack. However, following Iran’s retaliation on Friday, U.S. military resources assisted Israel in intercepting missiles.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened with the security cabinet on Saturday while strikes continued between Jerusalem and Tehran, as shown in photographs released by the Israeli government.
