Israeli Defense Forces Recover Bodies of Hostages

The Israeli Secretary of Defense announced on Thursday that two hostages, including a US citizen from Gaza, have been found dead. Both individuals were reportedly killed by Hamas on October 7, 2023.

Previous reports mentioned Judy Weinstein and her husband Gad Haggai, both in their 70s, who were initially believed to have been taken hostage, but it turns out they were murdered. Their remains were later discovered in Gaza.

According to the IDF and the Israeli Security Agency, the bodies of Judy Lynn Weinstein and Gad Haggai were retrieved from the Khan Yunis area of the Gaza Strip during a coordinated operation on Thursday night.

The victims resided in Kibbutz Nir Oz and were brutally killed on October 7 by members of the Palestinian armed group. At the time of their deaths, Judy was 70 and Gad was 72.

This operation involved the IDF, the Intelligence Information Bureau, and Special Forces, enabled by precise intelligence from the Hostage Task Force and other agencies.

Their family and the community in Nir Oz have been informed after identification was completed by forensic specialists and police.

The IDF and ISA express their condolences to the families and remain committed to efforts aimed at bringing all remaining hostages home swiftly.

This announcement brings attention to the tragic fate of hostages, highlighting the ongoing challenges since the onset of Israel’s “Operation Gideon” in Gaza. Currently, more than 50 hostages are believed to be held captive, with at least 20 thought to still be alive. Edan Alexander was recently released and was the last living American still held by Hamas.
