James Carville Critiques Sen. Fetterman’s Stance on Iran War

Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville recently expressed strong criticism of Senator John Fetterman’s support for the Iran war, labeling it as an example of persistent misjudgments. Fetterman, who secured his Senate seat in the highly competitive 2022 Pennsylvania race, has since taken positions that sometimes diverge from the Democratic Party’s consensus.

During a segment of the “Politics War Room” podcast, co-host Al Hunt posed a question about whether any Democrats might be “fooled” into backing former President Donald Trump amid the crisis over Iran. Hunt noted the precarious state of the situation, suggesting that any attempt to join that movement would be futile.

Not one to hold back, Carville remarked, “Can I have a public prayer? John Fetterman, whatever you do, stand your ground. Please don’t change. We prefer you exactly as you are, because everything you’ve said up till now has been wrong, and we’d like to keep that record intact.”

He added that Fetterman’s endorsement of the war wasn’t merely a tactical mistake for Democrats, hinting that it could actually push the party further in the opposite direction.

Carville described Fetterman in stark terms, even sarcastically suggesting that such controversial remarks might elevate his public profile. “That might get your name in the papers more,” he said dismissively.

Fetterman stirred attention earlier this year when he published thoughts on the war, stating he saw no reason why it should be controversial to celebrate the elimination of key leaders from “one of the most evil regimes in recorded history.” This came as former President Trump announced plans for a military mission targeting Iranian officials.

Attempts to reach Fetterman’s office for comment did not yield a response.
