Jim Jordan Seeks Testimony from Corporate Executives Allegedly Censoring Conservatives, Including Breitbart News

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) highlighted his fight against a shadowy syndicate of companies he claims are conspiring to “boycott, demonetize and censor objectionable views,” including Breitbart News.

The committee has asked executives from Group M and Unilever to testify publicly about whether the companies may have conspired to violate antitrust laws to silence conservative voices.

In the letter obtained by Breitbart News, Jordan said the committee had obtained documents showing that, as members of the steering team of the Global Coalition for Responsible Media (GARM), the two companies were “deeply engaged in efforts to boycott GARM, demonetize it, and censor objectionable views.”

In March, the justice committee wrote to the chief executives of five GARM steer team member companies, including Group M and Unilever, requesting documents and communications related to alleged censorship by conservatives.

Breitbart News reported:

GARM is a powerful initiative of the World Federation of Advertisers (WFA) and, according to its website: Over 150 The world’s biggest brands Over 60 GARM is the Association of National Advertisers around the World. Established It was launched in 2019 in Cannes, France, home to a film festival frequented by ultra-liberal Hollywood’s jet-set elite, to “address the challenges of harmful content on digital media platforms and its monetization through advertising.”

In his March letter, Jordan said GARM members, led by members of the Steer Team, were conspiring to demonetize conservative platforms and voices, specifically naming Breitbart News, Fox News and The Daily Wire as being affected.

“This adjustment does not necessarily revolve around ‘brand safety’ or ‘harmful’ content, as GARM has publicly claimed, but rather around a desire to censor conservative and other voices that GARM members do not like,” he wrote.

In his letter, Jordan explained how GARM’s potentially illegal efforts would work:

Under the Sherman Act, these types of agreements may be illegal, and the adequacy of current law should be reviewed. The harms that GARM inflicts on consumers are significant, making this practice concerning and requiring oversight. For example, content creators lose revenue because GARM “discourages advertising investment” from content it doesn’t like. When platforms remove content they don’t like, less content is available, and creators and publishers lose revenue.

A committee spokesperson told Breitbart News at the time that the committee was “all considering what could happen next” if companies didn’t comply, including subpoenas and congressional hearings.

The Committee has invited executives from both companies to appear at a hearing entitled “Collice in the Global Alliance for Responsible Media” to be held on July 10, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in Room 2141 of the Rayburn House Office Building.

The company notably invited Unilever president Helish Patel or CEO Hein Schumacher, and Group M CEO Christian Juhl. Group M describes itself as the world’s leading media investment firm, while Unilever is one of the world’s largest consumer goods companies.

The Judiciary Committee first launched a lengthy investigation into the issue in March 2023, request Information from GARM and WFA. Subpoena Both organisations are scheduled to disband in May 2023 after failing to submit any documentation.
